Glenn's Autobiography 2
A few years later I travelled around the U.S (West Coast) with my wife Karen for three weeks or so which we both enjoyed immensely. On the way home we stopped at Hawaii for 5 days which was three days to many as it really is a place to go with friends.
The Pearl Harbour trip was absolutely amazing. We arrived at the Pearl Harbour Memorial site at opening and watched the sailors (new and old) stand at attention while they played the "Last Post". Some of the old soldiers had tears streaming down there faces whilst standing at attention which really drove home the significance this attack had on the American Soldiers. Once Karen & I returned home we decided to move to Tauranga as we were planning to have children and we wanted good schooling for our kids. We had one child in Tauranga before moving to Katikati further North as Tauranga was growing extremely fast as becoming to busy for us small town folks. Karen and i brought a small run down Kiwifruit block and house near the Tauranga Harbour just North of Katikati where we live today. Our second child was born here which was to be our last as things got a lot busier. I started work at the Martha Mine in Waihi were I spent seven enjoyable years managing the Drill & Blast Operations on site. After five years at Martha Karen & I purchased another 8ha Kiwifruit production block as things were going well in the industry. Now living so close to the harbour its hard to resist dropping a line in the water every now and then in search of that 20lb Snapper or 25kg Kingfish. When the weather is right either my son or daughter hop in the back of our kayak with me and we head out for a fish in the harbour. To be honest we don't get a lot but I simply cant forget my son (7) catching his first snapper which weighted in at 4.5lbs. I will never forget the words he said when it took his bait "What the hells that Dad!!". My answer was its a fish boy, keep the rod tip up and play him in, which is what he did obviously.
